Type of course Lecture + Exercise
Level Main Study Program / Master
Semester Summer Semester

Aim of the course

In the compulsory elective module "Forming Technology - Machines", basic knowledge about forming machines is presented to the students. The focus lies on machines for the production of car components. Examplary workpieces are connecting rods, gear wheels and car body parts.

Regarding forming processes like shear cutting, sheet metal forming, hot and cold forging the topics pressdrives, inertia forces, overload protection systems, dynamic properties and machine rigidity are subjects of the lecture. Various working principles of forming machines (force-, path- and energy-linked) are described and their suitability for a couple of forming processes is demonstrated. Accuracy of the forming machines under load is a key aspect here. The integration of forming machines into automated production systems is also discussed.
