Aim of the course
In this elective tools and methods to analyse complex problems with unknown causes are presented as well as sustainable solution paths.
At the beginning an overview of storylines in problem-solving projects is given, discussing the main steps and the associated challenges. In the next section various problem-solving methods are presented, focusing on various aspects of the problem-solving process (problem analysis, root cause analysis, solution finding and implementation). Efficient problem-solving tools of the presented methods are discussed in detail.
Lecture contents
The module provides basic knowledge about problem-solving methods and their use in the product creating process from development to serial production. Problem-solving tools and their specific applications are discussed profoundly. After completing the module, students will be able to
- Describe the general process of problem-solving projects and explain the key steps,
- Categorise various problem-solving methods concerning their focus and applicability,
- Develop strategies for concrete procedures in problem-solving projects,
- Apply various problem-solving methods on practical examples.
