Aim of the course
By combining theory and practice, students gain a comprehensive insight into the forming process of manufacturing a tool using manual open-die forging (hammer and anvil). This requires the acquirement of basic theoretical knowledge in the field of forming technology and materials science, which is tested in a pre-test. After learning the basics of open-die forging, the students have to design a concept for the production of a hammer and tongs using forming processes. Suitable steel materials, processing temperatures and tools are to be selected for this purpose. Based on the planning, the workpieces are produced by the students under supervision.
Lecture contents
- Work through the theoretical basics of open-die forging and the material steel by working on a task sheet at home
- Development of a forging process for the production of a hammer and tongs using open-die forging methods
- Production of a tool by manual open-die forging (hammer and anvil)
