Forming Technology – Fundamentals - Reference number 31935 TV 2

Type of course Lecture + Exercise
Level Main Study Program / Master
Semester Summer Semester

Aim of the course

Within the field of study "Production Engineering", students learn about the aspects of modern production from an economic, ecological and social point of view. The compulsory subjects in this field of study provide students with the basic knowledge required to understand production technology. Forming technology is an important branch of the metalworking industry in the production, especially mass production, of components due to advantages such as material savings, high strength and short production times. Various products are formed parts from the areas of sheet metal forming such as white goods, car body parts, various consumer goods and crankshafts, connecting rods, gear wheels, etc. from the area of bulk metal forming. After presenting the basics of materials science, the stresses occurring in the various forming technology processes and elastic-plastic calculation methods, the compulsory subject "Forming Technology - Fundamentals" deals with the specific issues of sheet metal forming and hot as well as cold forming. The course comprises three elective modules: "Technology of Manufacturing Processes", "Machines, Systems and Automation in Production Engineering" and "Product Engineering and Logistics".

Lecture contents

  • Material behavior during forming
  • Stresses (elasticity, plasticity calculation)
