Abstract

Following the concept of lightweight construction in transportation vehicles is one approach for the reduction of CO2 pollution. In the collaborative research centre 675 several new research proposals are in progress. One goal is the utilization of phase transformation in metastable austenitic steels. The generation of local α'-martensitic reinforcements in austenitic ductile regions enables the production of load-adapted components for the application in automobile safety and transport vehicles. The reinforcement of metastable austenitic steels during deep drawing to utilize the α'-martensitic phase transformation in combination with the work-hardening effect is one concept of lightweight construction. One aim concerning this contribution is the material characterization of those local straininduced reinforcements in sheet metal. Moreover, the parts were produced by different forming temperatures e.g. T = -20°C, T = 20°C, T = 80°C and T = 100°C. After a short introduction in the field of enhancing stiffness during forming processes, the residual stresses between reinforcements are determined by using an X-ray diffractometer. Focussed on the effect of temperature, compression and tensile strains are very significant for the application of this new way of lightweight construction. To assess the cyclic behaviour of these reinforced parts, pulser tests were also accomplished.
